By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Jan 2021 11:40 AM GMTWhile everyone is fearing the news train of the Coronavirus that was detected in the United Kingdom in mid-September last year, one more variant was surfaced in South Africa.
The scientists who named the South African variant of the pandemic as '501.V2' expressed their concerns as this variant is not only more hazardous but also possess resistance against the Covid-19 vaccines.
The question raised by the scientists over the efficiency of the vaccines against the new strain is a serious area of concern which makes the situation even more deadly.
The new variant of the pandemic in South Africa was announced by scientists on the 18th of December. The local genomic scientists detected the new variant by conducting genome sequencing of the local samples
The South African variant of the Coronavirus posed a serious threat to the nation as it turned out dominant in the coastal areas of the country adding more troubles.
The new strain resulted in a rapid spread of fresh cases. Reports claimed that, compared to November, December month saw a rise of nearly 238 percent in fresh infections.
The researchers and authorities are not leaving any stone unturned to find a way to curb the infections. The researchers are conducting tests in a way that can the antibodies of the old strings help in fighting the new variant.
So far, scientists have detected 126 new variants of the novel Coronavirus across the globe. The news certainly raises a question, when we will get out of the Covid-19 fear?.
