The second wave of the Covid-19 crisis is gripping India like a raging fire. The country is not leaving any stone unturned to come out of its grip but in vain. Lakhs of people are getting infected with the virus daily.

With the virus spreading its wings, several states have already imposed lockdown and other restrictions. God's Own Country Kerala has also made its way to the list of states that went for local restrictions.

Given the Covid second wave fear, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced a complete lockdown for one week. Starting from May 8, the full lockdown will stay in place till the 16th of May.

The Chief Minister announced the same decision on social media. Taking to Twitter, Pinarayi Vijayan announced that from 6 AM on May 8 to May 16, the entire state will go under lockdown, he said.

'The entire State of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6 am on 8 May to 16 May. This is in the background of a strong 2nd wave of #COVID19,' the Kerala Chief Minister tweeted.

For the second consecutive day, Kerala added over 40,000 Covid cases. On Thursday, Kerala added the highest spike in cases since the pandemic hit with 42,464 fresh COVID-19 cases. The state's caseload rose to 17,86,396. Including 63 new casualties, total Covid deaths in the state mounted to 5,628.

Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have already imposed local restrictions to curb the infections. The restrictions in these regions are underway already.
