At the time when Taliban troops captured Afghanistan and kept the future of the people there in question, a Lok Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh made comments in support of them.

Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq made comments in favour of the Taliban troops. He compared the troops with that of Indian freedom fighters reportedly. These statements landed him in big trouble. He represents the
Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency.

As a result, a sedition case was filed against the MP and two others for their comments. He reportedly said the victory of the Taliban troops should be celebrated.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against the Lok Sabha member on the sedition charges under sections of 124A, 153A, 295, media reports claimed.

News Agency ANI quoted Sambhal SP as saying that the FIR was filed going by the complaint received against Shafiqur Rahman Barq who reportedly compared Taliban troops to Indian freedom fighters.

It is said that the Lok Sabha member allegedly drew comparisons between the Indian freedom fight and the Taliban invasion of Afghanistan. Saying how India fought for freedom, Taliban troops fought for their country, he reportedly said.

Terming the issues in Afghanistan as their internal matter, the Lok Sabha Member reportedly said that victory should be celebrated as the Taliban troops didn't let the strong countries like Russia or United States to establish power there.

His alleged statements created a sensation in Uttar Pradesh with the BJP leaders lashing out at his comments. The ruling party leaders said they see no difference between the Lok Sabha member and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's comments.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya came down severely on Shafiqur Rahman Barq and the Samajwadi Party.

The Deputy said, all the party is nothing but appeasement. The party has issues with singing the national anthem and they make allegations against police but they support the Taliban, he said.
