The contrast couldn't be starker. It showed the relative importance of the presidents of the BJP state units in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheme of things. It showed that the BJP has currently all its focus on Telangana and has no interest whatsoever in Andhra Pradesh.
While in Telangana's Ramagundam and at Hyderabad, Modi repeatedly praised state party chief Bandi Sanjay and said that he was here in Hyderabad on the ‘orders' of Bandi Sanjay. He was seen patting Sanjay's back for organizing two well-attended meetings in Telangana. The bonhomie was all too visible.
Cut to Andhra Pradesh's Vizag. According to some newspapers, Modi couldn't even recognize state BJP chief Somu Veerraju. Somu had to be introduced, according to these media organisations. Not just that, he is said to have asked Modi as to what he does for a living. A non-plussed Veerraju had to explain that he was the party state president.
According to political watchers, this shows that Modi is all focused on Telangana and wants to wrest it from the TRS in the next elections. But, as for Andhra Pradesh, he is interested in the continuance of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the state. That is the reason why he failed to recognize even the state president.
