Starting from December last, Telangana has been in the election mode. One election after another is keeping the state in perpetual campaign mode. First it was the assembly elections. Then the Lok Sabha elections came. Then there were cooperative organisations elections. This was followed by local body elections. More elections would follow. Thus, the state would be in election mode till October.
Know who is reaping the benefits of these elections? It's the liquor traders. Yes. During the last four months, additional liquor sales to a tune of Rs 11452 crore were reported from Telangana. The cheap liquor alone accounted for Rs 7000 crore. Till October 2018, the total liquor sales were about Rs 21 crore. But, the estimates are that by next October, the liquor sales are likely to touch Rs 35000 crore. During the last two months, beers alone accounted for Rs 2000 crore. Summer heat and poll heat have combined to spell money for the excise departments. So, they are saying – more elections the merrier.
