See who is most unnerved by the appointment of staunch pro-Hindutwa icon Bandi Sanjay as the Telangana BJP president? It's not the TRS, but the Congress. The Congress leaders are now worried by Bandi Sanjay's appointment.
The Congress in Telangana feels that if Bandi Sanjay carries on with this Hindutwa message, there is every likelihood of the youth of Telangana moving towards the BJP. All anti-TRS element too will consolidate behind the BJP. If this happens, the Congress vote share is likely to fall further. Sanjay's pro-Hindutwa stance will rob the Congress of both the Hindu as well as the Muslim votes, the Congress think-tanks feel. The Hindus will rally behind the BJP, while the Muslims will go to the TRS, leaving the Congress without any support base, they feel. The more aggressive Bandi Sanjay gets, more difficult it will be for the Congress.
To make things worse, the Congress has no TPCC chief and an appointment is not likely in immediate future due to the confusion at the top and the conflict at the state level. No two Congress leaders are on one page in Telangana. Leaderless and rudderless, can the Congress fight the BJP? If the same trend continues, the BJP will emerge as the chief opposition to the TRS by 2023, feel the Congress workers.
