Senior Debate In Congress Over Dubbak Bypoll Strategy
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Nov 2020 4:36 AM GMTThere is a serious debate within the Telangana Congress Party over the strategies adopted in the Dubbak bypoll. The Congress began as a strong foil to the TRS, but ended up as a poor third. Now, most political observers say that the Congress would be third in the race for the Dubbak assembly byelections.
Several leaders are questioning the rationale behind senior Congress leaders camping in Dubbak for over a fortnight and campaigning so vigorously. This would now give an impression that despite their presence and campaigning, party has fared so poorly. Had the party not taken these elections, it would have given a different impression. They are now questioning the wisdom of party's state affairs incharge Manickam Tagore in pitting all the seniors in the campaign.
But another strong section in the party said that this was a last ditch attempt for the Congress. They argue that the ground is slipping from under the feet of the Congress and that the BJP is making rapid strides. 'If we do not pool up all our energies and try to woo the voters, we will soon lose out to the BJP. If the BJP is projected as the real challenger to the TRS misrule, we will be weakened further. Hence, Manickam Tagore's strategy is good and there is no alternative,' said a senior party functionary who wished to remain anonymous.
Some Congress leaders are questioning the rationale behind making Mutyam Srinivasulu Reddy as the party candidate. 'He came at the last minute and did not make any impression,' they argue.
