September 17 Worries For TRS

While August is a troubling month for the TDP, September could well be problem month for the ruling TRS in Telangana. Why September? The issue of officially celebrating September 17 as Hyderabad liberation day is going to be raised this time with unprecedented vigour. Till recently, the BJP used to organise some protests, its leaders used to court arrest and be done with it. But, this time around, BJP national president Amit Shah is taking unusual interest in the Telangana Liberation Day. He has directed the party machinery in Telangana to up the ante and make it a big issue.
He has directed the party workers to take out huge processions, organise meetings and make September 17 a big issue. He has decided to spend time in Telangana and join the membership campaign personally. He is trying to give a boost to the party in Telangana.
All this is going to prove a headache for the ruling TRS. The party is slightly downcast after the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP and the Congress together have snatched away seven MP seats from the TRS. Also, opposition is building up for KCR on various issues. So, by using the September 17 issue, the BJP could rake up Telangana sentiment and also anti-Razakar sentiment. This could force an MIM—BJP showdown. This could be a huge problem for the ruling TRS, which wants to be friendly with both the parties.
