An Indian elected as new ICC Chairman
By: Tupaki Desk | 12 May 2016 7:42 AM GMTShashank Manohar on Thursday elected unopposed as International Cricket Council's (ICC) first independent chairman. He will commence his 2-year term with immediate effect.
Apparently, Mr.Manohar resigned as BCCI President two days ago just for getting hold of the Top Position. A person can't be ICC Chairman and President of a Country's cricket board during the same period.
As per the election process, ICC Directors were asked to Nominate one candidate for ICC Chairman post (on condition that he/she should be an ICC Director in the past or present). With Shashank Manohar emerging as the sole nominee for the post, Election scheduled to happen on May 23rd has been called off.
Being a renowned Indian lawyer, Shashank Manohar began his first stint as BCCI Chief between 2008 & 2011. He was re-elected as BCC President after Jagmohan Dalmiya's demise in October 2015.
