She changed 'husband's name' to cast 'vote'
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 March 2021 9:47 AM ISTWe know politicians change parties and party symbols at the drop of the hat. But, have you ever seen a politician who changes husband just to cast a vote? Well Tandur municipal chairperson changed the name of her husband to cast her vote and has now landed in a deep controversy that could hit her political credibility and could even cost her the municipal chairperson's job.
Swapna has cast the vote of her close relative whose name is same as that of her during the MLC Graduate elections. Swapna, who has applied for the gruduate vote, could not get enrolled as she had failed to furnish the relevant documents. So, she used the vote of her relative, who has the same name. But, there's one catch. In the voter slip given to her, her husband's name is shown as Ashvin. But, municipal chairperson's husband's name is Parimal. The opposition, which was waiting for an opportunity to attack her, did not miss this. They lodged a complaint with district collector Shashank Goel.
On inquiry, it was found that the chairperson had indeed impersonated and that this was a serious offense. While the opposition is demanding her sacking, one does not know what decision the election commission will take.
