SHG women fined for not attending CM's meeting?
By: Tupaki Desk | 28 Aug 2022 3:52 AM GMTDid the officials and the organisers of the women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) force the women to attend the public meeting that Telangana chief minister KCR had addressed at Kongarakalan on Friday? Were they levied a fine if they chose to stay away from the meeting? Screenshots of threatening messages that asked the SHG women to pay a fine of Rs 500 if they failed to attend CM's programme have gone viral on the social media in some parts of the Hyderabad city on Saturday and Sunday.
CM KCR addressed a public meeting to mark the inauguration of the Rangareddy district collectorate's integrated building at Kongarakalan. To ensure a massive attendance, the officials asked all the SHG women to be present at the meeting. However, several women expressed inability to attend due to fever or other reasons. They were asked to pay a fine of Rs 500 for not attending the CM's meeting.
The Whatsapp Screenshots of this are now doing rounds in Badangpet and nearby areas. The BJP, which was quick to take up this issue, lodged a complaint with the municipal commissioner. The screenshots of the conversation between the officials and the SHG women were appended to the formal complaint that the BJP lodged.
Interestingly, Kongarakalan appears to be a jinxed place for the TRS. In 2018, it organized a massive public meeting. Every effort was made to ensure that there were at least 10 lakh people. But, the final estimates have shown that the number was less than one lakh. The programme ended up as a major disaster for the TRS. It is another matter that the TRS overcame this failure and went on to win the assembly elections.
