Shiv Sena Pricks Congress-NCP Again

Modi, it appears, has successfully driven a wedge between Shiv Sena on one hand and Congress and the NCP on the other in Maharashtra. BJP's biggest weapon is the CAA-NPR and NRC. On this issue, the Congress and the NCP are finding that the Shiv Sena is not fully complying with their diktats. This is leading to the widening of the gap between the parties.

The Shiv Sena had supported the CAA in Lok Sabha and staged a walkout in Rajya Sabha. Both ways, he has only helped the BJP in getting the CAA passed. On NRC, the Shiv Sena avoided collision course and said it would not allow the NRC exercise to be done in the state. But, it has again shown its Hindutwa side when it said that it is not going to block the NPR exercise in the state.

CM Uddhav Thackeray has said that the NPR is a census and that there was no reason to oppose it. He said he would personally check the columns in the NPR to ensure that there were no problems. This statement has left the NCP and the Congress shocked. A visibly unhappy Sharad Pawar said tht while Uddhav Thackeray was entitled to his personal opinion, he has to take all the coalition partners along. He also said that he would convince Uddhav Thackeray on the issue ad will soon have a meeting with him on the issue.

While the Shiv Sena voted for the CAA in Lok Sabha, both the Congress and the NCP have voted against it. The three parties have come together to prevent the BJP from coming back to power in Maharashtra and have formed the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi.
