Shopping Malls should not charge Consumers for carry bags!

As a landmark order, the Hyderabad Consumer's Commission had ruled out that the shopping malls cannot charge money from the consumers for the carry bags. Calling that carry bags are the right of the consumers, the Commission said, the malls cannot charge for the carry bags.

The issue reached the Consumer's commission when a resident of Hyderabad's Tarnaka moved the commission against leading Shopping Mall chain D-Mart for charging money for the carry bags. As a response to the petition, the Commission served notices to D Mart and directed the Supermarket chain to attend the hearing.

The Commission said that no matter if the Logo of the SuperMarket is printed or not, the carry bags should be provided for free of cost for the consumers. While directing the malls that carry bags should not be charged, the Commission said that those who fail to implement the orders will not be spared.

The orders issued by the Hyderabad Consumers Commission will bring a smile to the faces of the consumers who often spend money to take the carry bags from the stores if they forget to take a bag with them to carry things.

We have seen supermarkets charging money for the carry bags based on their size. With the new orders, the consumers can now get the carry bags for free of cost.
