Shyam Saran Negi who is a retired school teacher has been casting his vote in every single election in Himachal Pradesh since the past 65 years, be it Lok Sabha or Assembly or Panchayat. He even voted during the 2014 General Elections inspite of being 95-plus and that unbelievable record made him the ambassador of Democracy in India.

However, Mr. Negi is likely to miss voting for the first time in his life. Panchayat Elections in Himachal Pradesh were scheduled on January 1st. Even though Negi is keen to vote, His relatives say his health condition is poor and its almost impossible to take him to the polling booth which is 2 km away at the age of 98.

Negi is a native of Kalpa in Shimla. He created history by being the first Indian to vote in the first Lok Sabha elections which took place on October 25th, 1951.
