The party fully utilized the Vizag gas leak tragedy for its publicity, while despite the government machinery and despite having mediapersons for handling media in Delhi, the national TV channels , at least some of them, have preferred to give more air time to out-of-power TDP than the ruling YSRCP. The well-paid and much touted media professionals tasked with influencing the national media was missing in action.
Chandrababu Naidu managed to be on the screens of national English TV channels and speak about the 'flaws' of the government. He replied to questions and tried to project his expertise in crisis and calamity handling. While none of the ministers were available for the media house, the TDP PR machinery reportedly fixed up time slots for Chandrababu Naidu. Using their influence, it sought to it that Chandrababu gets more air time. Also, his staying in Hyderabad proved to be a boon for Chandrababu.
At the same time, the TDP-leaning local media has tried to play up the story of Vijaysai Reddy getting down from Jagan's car. Attempts were made to portray this as an internal rift in the YSRCP. Clearly, despite the good work and quick response, the YSRCP ended up as a loser in the media perception battle in the Vizag gas leak case.
