When Sonia Gandhi was upset with Pranab?

In his autobiography 'Coalition Years: 1996-2012', Pranab Mukherjee mentioned Sonia Gandhi was upset with him for meeting Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray ahead of Presidential Polls in 2012.
Shiv Sena was then part of NDA. Still, Bal Thackeray had voluntarily extended his support to Pranab's candidature and it's something very unexpected.
When he was on a campaign trail, Bal Thackeray invited Pranab to meet him at his residence repeatedly. However, Sonia Gandhi was against this meeting as she can't approve few policies of Thackeray. But, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar insisted him to meet Bal Thackeray saying someone who has gone out of his way to support him shouldn't be humiliated. Then, Pranab requested Sharad Pawar to take him to the residence of Bal Thackeray.
During the meeting, Bal Thackeray joked it's natural for Maratha Tiger to support the Royal Bengal Tiger. Shiv Sena Chief opined Pranab was different from other Congress Leaders.
The next day, Pranab Mukherjee was informed that Sonia Gandhi and her political advisor Ahmed Patel were unhappy over the meeting. Pranab, however, felt what he did was right as Mamata's TMC had already distanced UPA and ignoring the advice of Sharad Pawar may lead to NCP following the same path.
