Southern States to follow lockdown restrictions, barring Telugu states!
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 May 2021 6:13 AM GMTThe ongoing Covid second wave is getting deeper and deeper into the country at an unprecedented level. In the middle of the tough situations, lockdowns and restrictions became the need of the hour to the states and union territories.
The Karnataka government led by CM Yeddyurappa imposed partial lockdown and curfew in the state earlier. However, the outcome is not that good as anticipated by the government.
With partial lockdown and curfew not coming in handy, the Karnataka government has decided to go for a two-week complete statewide lockdown. The lockdown will stay in place from 6 am on May 10 to 6 am on May 24.
During the lockdown period, everything will come to a standstill barring the essential services and grocery shops, they will be operating between 6 AM to 6 PM. Metro train services will not be working.
On the other hand, Tamil Nadu will also go under a two-week complete lockdown starting from May 10. After the state reported more than 26,000 fresh Covid cases on Friday, the Tamil Nadu government announced a lockdown.
Newly appointed Chief Minister MK Stalin said the lockdown was imposed as a result of unavoidable reasons. The decision was taken after consulting the health experts and taking inputs from the district collectors.
When the southern states are opting for lockdown, two Telugu states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are not of the lockdown opinion. Ruling out the lockdown, Telangana CM KCR said, imposing lockdown will lead to a food crisis. However, the Telangana government extended the existing night curfew till the 15th of this month.
Fellow Telugu state Andhra Pradesh is also not observing lockdown. Unlike Telangana, the day curfew was imposed in Andhra Pradesh as a bid to break the transmission chain.
