Even when the protests seeking Special Category Status has been intensifying, Union Government issued a similar statement people of AP kept hearing since the past three-and-a-half years.

Addressing media a short while ago, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley declared there is no question of granting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. 'We aren't offering Special Status to any of the states as per the recommendations of 14th Finance Commission. This applies for AP as well. There isn't much difference between Special Status and Special Package. What more do you get from Special Status? As there is revenue deficit due to bifurcation, We have offered special grants to AP. Never did Centre say funds won't be granted to AP. We are offering funds in 90:10 ratio through NABARD. Centre is willing to sanction funds either through Nabard or External-Aided Projects (EAP),' he said.

Jaitley told Special Status was accorded to North-East States in the past due to fund crunch they faced. He informed that practice was discontinued after the rollout of GST.
