The Militant organisation Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) which was founded to fight for the rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka and has not been in the news for over a decade was brought to light after a big Tamil leader made some sensational comments on the founder chief of the body. His comments created a sensation in India and Sri Lanka as well.

Pazha Nedumaran, a popular nationalist leader in Tamil Nadu took everyone by surprise by claiming that Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief Prabhakaran is very much alive and he will come out at the right time. As if that was not enough he even claimed that he is in touch with Prabhakaran’s family members.

His comments created a debate on whether Prabhakaran is really alive. Pazha Nedumaran is very close to the LTTE and this made many discuss the possibility of Prabhakaran being alive and coming out when the right time arrives.

Amid this, the Island nation Sri Lanka reacted to the claims and made it clear that there is no truth in the claims and Prabhakaran was killed. The Defence Minister said that the claims made by the Tamil leader are nothing but a joke.

The News agency Press Trust of India quoted the spokesman of the Defence Ministry of Sri Lanka as saying that he was killed in 2009 and there is DNA proof to confirm the death. "It is confirmed that he was killed on 19 May 2009. The DNA has proved it," Colonel Nalin Herath said speaking to PTI.

It is known that the civil war between the Sri Lankan armed forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) went on for a few decades in Sri Lanka. To put an end to the menace the Sri Lankan government started an exercise to root out the body and its members.

The face-off between the two sides started in 1983 and saw peaks in the early 2000s. By May 2009, the situation came under control with the armed forces killing all the top leaders and sympathisers. Prabhakaran was also killed as claimed by Sri Lanka. The civilian areas of the Tamils were also bombed.
