Is Hindi our National Language or not? This is the big question in the country right now. While political leaders like Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a few others are painting Hindi as a national language, the leaders from the Southern states are strongly opposing this narrative.

Joining the force, Kannada Superstar Kiccha Sudeep also hit back at the narrative saying that Hindi is not the national language anymore. At an event, he said when asked about Hindi that everyone should know that Hindi is not the national language. The video clip in which he said Hindi is no national language went viral on social media.

His comments were countered by senior Bollywood actor-director Ajay Devgn. Replying to Sudeep, Ajay Devgn said that no matter what Hindi was, is and will be the national language of India. Sudeep gave another reply that he has no intention of provoking anyone. He even asked if Ajay Devgn can understand if he replies in Kannada script.

Adding fuel to the issue, the former Chief Ministers of Karnataka stood in solidarity with Kiccha Sudeep and blasted the narrative of Hindi being dubbed the national language of India. Hitting back at Ajay Devgn, former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said that Hindi was never the national language and it will not be in the future.

"Hindi was never & will never be our National Language. It is the duty of every Indian to respect linguistic diversity of our Country. Each language has its own rich history for its people to be proud of. I am proud to be a Kannadiga!!" Siddaramaiah said in his tweet.

Another former Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy stepped in and said that he sees no wrong or fault in what Kiccha Sudeep said over the Hindi language. In a series of tweets, the ex-Chief Minister said that a large population of India speaks Hindi and that doesn't mean it makes Hindi the national language.

"Just because a large population speaks Hindi, it doesn't become a National Language. Less than 9 States, Kashmir-Kanyakumari, have Hindi as 2nd, 3rd language or not even that. This being situation what is the truth in Ajay Devgan's statement? What do you mean by not to dub?," his tweet reads.
