In a nail-biting election, Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP)'s candidate Raghunandan Rao emerged victorious in the Dubbaka by-elections by defeating the ruling TRS party's candidate S Sujatha by 1118 notes.

Raghunandan Rao was born in March 1968 in erstwhile Medak district. After completing his BSc from Siddipet Degree College, he went to Osmani University to complete his LLB. He even practiced law after getting his LLB degree.
After working five years with a Telugu daily, Raghunandan Rao found his interest in politics and joined Telangana Rashtra Sabha(TRS) and participated in the agitation for Telangana statehood movement.
He faced a shock from TRS after the party suspended him in 2013 for allegedly meeting Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, who opposed the Telangana movement.
Later he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. After losing the 2014 and 2018 Assembly polls and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, luck favoured him for the fourth time and he won the by-elections.
