Summer effect: Telangana guzzles more beer than last year

Oppressiveâ¦sweltering⦠call it whatever you like. But, this summer is making the booze lovers and liquor sellers very happy. The people are guzzling more bottles of beer than ever before because of the hot summer. The Telangana government is happy as the increased sale means more revenue for it.
In March this year, the beer sales were reported at Rs 3.14 crore bottles in Telangana. The number has gone up to 6 crore bottles in April. Thus, the beer sale has doubled in just one month. The excise officials expect further rise in the sales as May promises to be hotter than usual and peak summer temperatures are likely to be reported.
Last year's April, the total sale of beer bottles was just 3.25 crore bottles. Thus, the number this April has just doubled. Compared to March 2021, the sales in 2022 March have shown a 74 percent rise. Compared to April 2021, the sales in April 2022 have registered a staggering 95 per cent increase, according to excise officials.
Last year in Telangana, as many as 65 lakh cases (each case containing 12 bottles) were lifted from the depots in March and April. This year, the number has gone up to 93 lakh cases for the months of March and April. The officials estimate that the liquor sales, especially the sale of beer, would further go up in May.
