Like every other sport, Cricket has also come to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, other sports are slowly getting started again while maintaining social distancing guidelines and doing regular testing.

Indias's most favourite league, IPL which was supposed to happen in the summer has stalled indefinitely as the virus scare made the players stick to home. While the discussions of staging IPL is happening across the world, the iconic Sunil Gavaskar feels realistic chances of conducting a shortened Indian Premier League this year is in Sri Lanka from early September.

With a flattening of the curve in the number of Coronavirus cases in Australia, the country may be able to stage the T20 World Cup as scheduled after all.

As the Australian government has now formally announced that 25 per cent crowd can turn up for sporting events, the T20 World Cup in October looks more expected than IPL.

"After the announcement by the Australian government, there seems to be a possibility of conducting a World T20 in October. Maybe the teams will have to reach three weeks earlier, have seven days of practice games and also 14-day quarantine," Gavaskar said.

"If ICC believes that World T20 can happen, then having IPL looks difficult because it could only be held if World T20 is postponed but after the announcement (by Australia PM Scott Morrison), IPL in October looks difficult. September you can’t have IPL in India due to monsoon. But maybe in Sri Lanka from early September with teams playing each other once instead of a doubleheader. Maybe you can think of that," he added.

The series between England and West Indies in a bio-secure environment which happens in next month will be a good test and it will help us evaluate if we can play cricket or not.
