By: Tupaki Desk | 14 Sep 2022 3:55 PM GMTFormer Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is one of the most successful captains ever to lead the team. Though the Ganguly-led team did not win any ICT trophies, his team went on to see great heights like winning series abroad. Under his captaincy, many young players were groomed including Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
As another feather in his cap, Sourav Ganguly became the President of BCCI. Now the ruling of the Supreme Court came as a piece of good news for Sourav Ganguly and his fans. The modification sought by the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) was approved by the Supreme Court.
The modification in the BCCI's constitution which says the term of Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah as President and Honorary Secretary can be extended was approved. The Supreme Court's verdict made changes to the existing cooling-off period.
It has to be mentioned here that, the cooling-off period was in existence which says that, the office bearers who hold the positions for two terms should have to wait for three years to run for the next elections. Now the ruling of the Supreme Court changed the status quo of the cooling-off.
As the terms of Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah are gearing up to end, the BCCI moved the court. The bench of the Supreme Court heard the petition and said the changes sought by the BCCI are acceptable and maintainable.
