The case reached the top court of the country after Kamal Nath knocked on the doors of the court challenging the orders of the Election Commission of India to revoke his "star campaigner" status.
The Constitutional bench led by Chief Justice of India(CJI) Sharad Bobde which heard the case has issued interim orders to stay the orders to revoke the "star campaigner" status of Kamal Nath.
The bench, which also comprises Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian maintained that the election administering body possesses no power to decide who can be the star campaigner, reports claimed.
In his petition, Kamal Nath maintained that he has not received any notices from the the Election Commission and told that court that no action was taken against BJP leaders for the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation.
The Counsel appeared before the Supreme Court on behalf of the Election Commission told the court that the body will file a reply petition for Kamal Nath's petition.
The Election Commission revoked the star campaigner status of Kamal Nath on the grounds of repeated MCC violations by addressing Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan "mafia" and "milawat khor". Earlier, Kamla Nath was warned by EC for addressing BJP leader and candidate Imarti Devi an "item".
