Supreme Court says OK To Live Telecasting Of Court Proceedings
X
The Supreme Court on Monday said that it has no problem live-telecasting the proceedings of the court. The Supreme Court was responding to a petition filed by senior advocate Indira Jaisingh. The Centre has also said that it would set up a dedicated TV Channel on the lines of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TV.

Even chief justice Dipak Chopra opined that livestreaming would help in bringing the Supreme Court closer to the people. This will make the proceedings more transparent, he said. But, he felt exception should be given to sensitive issues like the rape or divorce cases. Atttorney General KK Venugopal said the livestreaming would first be introduced in the Supreme Court and would then be extended to the lower courts.

Indira Jaisingh has argued that Supreme Court proceedings must be live-telecasted like the proceedings of Parliament. She said the live telecast of the Lok Sabha and Rajya sabha has enabled the people to understand the partilamentary proceedings.
