The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down a review plea of 21 Opposition Parties over the counting of VVPAT attached to EVMs. These Parties sought a direction to Election Commission of India to count 25 percent of VVPAT Machines instead of only 5 in every constituency.

Today, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi told the Top Court doesn't feel the necessity to change its previous order.

On April 8th, Election Commission informed the Supreme Court that election results would be delayed by 5 days even if 50 percent of the total VVPAT Slips are counted. Then, The Apex Court ordered for counting of 5 VVPAT Machines in every constituency instead of just 1.

Opposition Parties counsel AM Singhvi argued that counting just 5 VVPAT Machines account for only 2 percent of the total Machines in a constituency. On the other hand, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain claimed to be happy with the judgement given by the Supreme Court. He explained, 'Counting each VVPAT takes about an hour. Which means, Counting of 5 VVPATs delay the results by 5 hours. Election Results could be out by May 23rd night or 24th morning'.
