By: Tupaki Desk | 18 Feb 2021 12:59 PM GMTThe former Chief Justice of India(CJI) Ranjan Gogoi got a major sigh of relief after the Supreme Court has closed the inquiry that was set up to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against him.
These rumors of sexual harassment against Ranjan Gogoi were surfaced back in 2019. Following this, an inquiry has been ordered to look into these allegations by the top court.
Former Justice AK Patnaik was given the responsibility to look into these allegations. The inquiry report has been submitted to the top court, the Supreme Court today.
Based on AK Patnaik's inquiry report, the Supreme Court has said that it cannot rule out the possibility of a conspiracy against Ranjan Gogoi, who was accused of sexual harassment.
The report submitted by Justice Patnaik has admitted that the conspiracy existed against the former CJI Ranjan Gogoi and the conspiracy cannot be ruled out, the SC said.
While closing the inquiry that was set up in this regard, the Supreme Court has quoted the Intelligence Bureau director, who has claimed that serious views taken by Ranjan Gogoi over the National Register of Citizens might have resulted in several people not happy with his decisions.
"We are of the view no true purpose would be served. Pleadings are closed and suo motu disposed of. The report be put in sealed cover," the bench, which heard the case said.
During the hearing, the constitutional bench has said that the purpose of setting up the committee was to probe a conspiracy to frame judges, but not inquire into the allegations.
