If there is any controversy that has sent shocking waves across the nation and outside the country too, then it is the much-talked-about Hijab controversy that had crippled many parts in Southern state Karnataka. Protests broke out and tension gripped the state due to the issue.

Having created a sensation, the issue had reached the state High Court. Given the bunch of petitions filed in connection with the controversy, the High Court heard the petitions daily for a few weeks and gave its sensational verdict on Tuesday. In the verdict, the High Court made it clear that wearing Hijab is not an essential part of Islam and the government can decide on imposing the uniform code.

The Muslim students and activists who pinned high hopes that the Court will give a favorable verdict had faced a big setback in the issue. To keep up their fight in the row, one of the few Mulsim students who moved the High Court had knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court.

Through a counsel, a Muslim student had approached the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing. However, the Apex Court said that it will consider hearing the petition after the Holi festival.

Citing exams as the reason, the petitioner's lawyer said that the issue is urgent as far as the exams are concerned. As a response, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana reportedly asked for some time to decide on the petition and said that the issue will be posted.

Tracing back the controversy, it had popped up in January this year, when a few Muslim students were asked to take off the Hijab to enter the educational institutions. The students alleged that the institutions had not asked them to do so, but they are now asking them.

However, the educational institutions said that these students who are now protesting against the Hijab row did not attend the institutions in their religious attire and they are now creating an issue out of nowhere. The Karnataka issue had passed on to other states as well where a few Muslim students have asked to remove the hijab. Later, the issue reached the court.
