The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to impose a stay on it's March 20th order making the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act less effective. However, It agreed to reconsider the judgement delivered last month during the hearing scheduled to happen after 10 days. Parties were asked to submit their written submissions within two days.

Responding on the review petition moved by the Centre, Supreme Court commented, 'Not against the SC/ST Atrocities Act, but don't want the innocent to be punished. Any provision of the Act haven't been diluted. We are only safeguarding the interest of the innocents. The Act can't be allowed to misuse'.

As per March 20th Order, Citizens can be arrested under SC/ST Atrocities Act only after a DSP-range Officer ensures the allegations aren't baseless. Public Servants cannot be prosecuted without the consent of appointing authority.

9 People were killed in the violence during the Bharat Bandh by Dalits across the nation on Monday.
