The Supreme Court on Tuesday made it clear that it can't lay moral guidelines to citizens while passing judgement on the petition seeking ban on Sardaar Jokes.

Lawyer Harvinder Choudhary moved a petition in Supreme Court against the jokes on Sikhs. He complained silly jokes portray Sikh Community in a bad light. He sought a ban on such Jokes and also demanded those who operate the websites which encourage them to be prosecuted under the laws guaranteeing imprisonment for 6 months to 5 years.

While passing the judgement Today, The Apex Court said: 'Sikhs are a highly respected community. You're (Petitioner) are bringing it down by seeking a ban on jokes. Even if we issue guidelines, Who's gonna implement them or control it? We can stop such jokes if they are circulated for a commercial purpose. But, the matter lies in the domain of legislature if the jokes are a societal or psychological phenomenon'.
