Supreme Court Will Hear The Pleas Challenging The CAB ON Wednesday

The Apex Court has agreed to hear a bunch of petitions on 18 December which challenges the constitutional validity of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

Congress leaders and senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal has moved the Supreme Court and submitted the pleas before the three-judge constitutional bench led by Chief Justice SA Bobde.

The bench which comprises Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant has decided to club all the petitions challenging the CAB Act and hear them on the 18th.

It has been widely reported that Senior Leaders of Assam Congress have filed a petition in the supreme court challenging the Act. Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram will likely file a petition on behalf of ex Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Challenging the Act, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM) supremo Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress Lok Sabha lawmaker TN Prathapan who represents Thrissur have also filed separate petitions in the apex court.
