By: Tupaki Desk | 18 April 2022 7:26 AM GMTThe infamous Lakhimpur Kheri violence case had sent shocking waves across the nation. With the issue coming at a time when the farmers were aggressively protesting against the Agriculture bills, the issue had drawn everyone's attention and many activists have condemned the issue.
The sensational case had reached the Supreme Court one more time. Hearing a petition, the Apex Court had canceled the bail given by the High Court. Not just that, the Union Minister's son, who is the accused in the case was also asked to surrender within a week.
After the Allahabad High Court had granted Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra a bail in connection with the case, a petition was filed in the Apex Court challenging the High Court's verdict. During the hearing, the Supreme Court is said to have raised a few doubts about the court orders.
The bench of the Supreme Court that comprises Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli heard the petition. During the arguments, the justices have reportedly asked why the High Court had relied on the FIR instead of considering the charge sheet.
The lawyers who have represented the farmers told the Supreme Court that the Allahabad High Court had reportedly not listened to what the farmers said during the arguments. The SC had stressed the same point, as per the media reports.
The Allahabad High Court had granted bail to the Minister's son back in February. The farmers in Uttar Pradesh have moved the Supreme Court and the case came for the hearing now. Noting that the farmers did not get a chance to tell their version to the High Court, the Supreme Court raised a few doubts about the court orders.
The sensational case goes back to October last year. While the farmers were protesting against the controversial agriculture bills, the convoy of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra had rammed onto the protesting crowd.
A few farmers have reportedly lost their lives and the issue kickstarted a political storm. The opposition parties have started a fight saying that the attack was pre-planned to scare the farmers.
