T Government Cancels Cash Help to 8.50 Lakh BPL People
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 April 2020 7:58 AM GMTIn a bold move, the Telangana Government has decided not to give the Rs 1500 cash assistance to the people below the poverty line as part of Corona assistance. As a result, 8.50 lakh persons have been denied this assistance and thus the state Government has saved around Rs 150 crore.
Now, why did the State Government stop paying the cash assistance to these 8.50 lakh people? The reason is simple. The government has provided 12 kg rice per person for the BPL people during the lockdown. But, these persons have not collected their rice for both March and April. Many have not collected their quota of rice in January and February too. This only means that these people do not need the subsidized rice. Those who do not need subsidy rice do not need the cash assistance too. Hence, the government has decided not to provide Rs 1500 per person to these people. The government has already prepared a list of people who have not collected their quota of rice for these months.
The State Government has decided to provide ration material and cash assistance to around 87 lakh people. These have been identified as the BPL people. In addition, people belonging to 26 nomadic tribes too would be provided with subsidy and cash help.
