The much-awaited T20 World Cup has arrived. In the opening match Island nation Sri Lanka and Namibia locked horns. Given the form of Sri Lanka and its great performance in the recent Asia Cup finals, many expected that Sri Lanka would win. But the small team Namibia stunned everyone by crushing Sri Lanka.

Minnows Namibia pulled off a brilliant stint and defeated Sri Lanka. With an all-round performance, Namibia gave a super start to the big tournament and announced its entry into the world in a grand manner. Despite not getting the ideal start, Namibia managed to post a fighting score of 163 in their innings.

Sri Lanka which entered the tournament as hot favourites won the toss as asked Namibia to bat first. Bowlers pushed Namibia into big trouble by taking 6 wickets for just 6 wickets. Then Namibia did something unexpected and recorded a 70-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Thanks to the partnership, Namibia managed to post a good score.

Sri Lanka did not get an ideal start as the island team lost three early wickets. Within powerplay, Sri Lanka lost three wickets that too for a less score. Namibia bowlers sent back Pathum Nissanka (9), Kusal Mendis (6), and Danushka Gunathilaka (0) giving their team the required start.

With the Namibia bowlers breathing fire on the field with their deliveries, Sri Lanka was bowled out in 19 overs for just 108 runs. Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka is the leading scorer in the Sri Lankan team with 27. His innings include a maximum and two boundaries.

The Namibian bowlers need a special mention here. At regular intervals, they took wickets and always kept Sri Lanka away from the target. Ben Shikongo (2/22), Bernard Scholtz (2/18), David Wiese (2/16), Jan Frylinck (2/26), and JJ Smit (1/16) made valuable contributions in the big win.

Ben Shikongo came very close to a hattrick by claiming two wickets in two consecutive deliveries. By sending Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka back to the pavilion, the young bowler broke the back of the Sri Lankan team. Cricket lovers are talking about his swinging deliveries.
