It might be hard to believe, Taj Mahal which is India's biggest tourist attraction, is turning 'green'. Why is it happening? This could be due to the attack on the World Heritage monument by insects.

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ordered for an inquiry into Taj Mahal's change of color. He pledged to protect the beauty of the monument by taking necessary precautionary measure. Archaeological Department & Pollution Control Board were involved in the probe to find out the reasons behind discolouring.

In the recent past, There were complaints about the greenish-black patches on Taj Mahal. An insect named Geoldichironomus releases faeces which causes green patches on structures. Another reason could be the rise in Pollution levels of Yamuna river.

The 17th Century Monument was built by Akbar's grandson Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz.
