After impressive show in recently held 24-member Andaman local body elections, Telugu Desam Party decided to field its candidate for Andaman Lok Sabha seat.

As per statistics, Around 1.5 lakh Telugu speaking people with roots in Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts live in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. TDP emerged victorious in 2 divisions during the recent Municipal Polls and even an Independent candidate which the party supported won the election. Telugu Desam came 2nd in four divisions and stood at 3rd Position in 11 other divisions.

TDP believes it could be a strong force in Andaman only next to BJP and would seek the support of like-minded parties to win the prestigious Lok Sabha seat. This is a major step towards transformation of TDP from a Regional party to a National party. Right now, TDP have 16 MPs from AP and 1 MP from Telangana. It could emerge as National Party if it wins another Lok Sabha from any of the remaining states in the country.

Norms to be eligible for National Party Status: 11 Lok Sabha seats in 3 States (or) 2 Percent Votes in Lok Sabha polls (or) 6 Percent of valid votes polles in at least four or more states in the General Elections.
