After 3-year wait, TDP gets to share stage with BJP

Finally, for the first time after separating from the BJP, the TDP managed to share the stage with the BJP leaders. The TDP, which lost power after breaking away from the BJP in 2019, was trying every trick in the trade to get pally with the BJP again. But, the BJP has always spurned the offer.

But, presidential elections have offered the TDP an opportunity to get closer to the BJP again. On Tuesday, the TDP organized a meeting of its MLAs and MPs and pledged its support to BJP's presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. The TDP sources are touting this as a political coup of sorts. The TDP sources are claiming that political wizard Chandrababu Naidu had announced his support at the last minute and thus did not give time to the YSRCP to thwart the Murmu meeting.

However, in the last elections too, the then opposition YSRCP had extended its support to Kovind. Kovind had a separate meeting with the YSRCP MLAs after having a meeting with the TDP, which was then part of the NDA.

But sources in the know say that TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindra has repeatedly requested the BJP leaders to have a separate meeting with the TDP voters when Murmu visits AP. Kishan Reddy then tweaked the itinerary to have the TDP meeting. Interestingly, the BJP did at no stage ask for the support of the TDP. In fact, even the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha too did not seek the TDP support.

But, the TDP achieved its objective of sharing the same stage with the BJP after trying for three long years. However, except for union minister G Kishan Reddy and state president Somu Veerraju, no other national leader was present on the dais. But, even that small meeting gave some satisfaction to the TDP, which is dying to forge an alliance with both the BJP and the Jana Sena.
