The facility of taking paternity leave in India became a much debatable issue after Indian skipper Virat Kohli took paternity leave after the first test against the Aussies in the recently held Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Now, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member of Parliament (MP) from Andhra Pradesh (AP) Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu who represents the Srikakulam constituency followed Virat Kohli to apply for paternity leave.

The two-time MP has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to grant him a paternity leave for nine days, from January 29 to February 10. The MP and his wife Sravya are expecting their first child.

In the letter, the 33-year-old MP said that he wishes to be with his wife and child as a responsible husband and soon-to-be father. He said he will follow monsoon sessions to keep himself informed.

"I am elated to inform you that my wife and I are expecting to welcome our child into this world sometime in the next week. Therefore, I would like to request paternity leave of nine days between January 29 and February 10," the MP said

"In addition to nutrition, nurturing relationships and a secure environment in the early days of a child's life shape it's well-being and cognitive development...Childcare should not solely be the responsibility of the mother. I look forward to being an equal contributor in the care and progress of our child, " he added.

The TDP MP is probably, the first Parliamentarian in the country to seek a paternity leave in the country. He has set a perfect example of balancing work life and professional life.
