Tech Giant's Big Step In Allowing Employees Holding Two Jobs!
By: Tupaki Desk | 21 Oct 2022 9:31 AM GMTThe IT sector suffered a big shock with the moonlighting policy as the employees and employers have contrasting views on the practice. The employees say there is nothing wrong in practice as they are holding a second job in their free time. But the employers are not supporting the practice and even dubbed the practice as unethical.
Leading companies like Wipro and others urged the employees to not use the practice and even laid off a few employees as they are using moonlighting practice and holding dual jobs. The layoffs have started a big debate on whether the practice is correct or not.
Amid this, one of the leading tech giants Infosys stunned everyone by allowing the employees to use moonlighting. However, the tech company said that the employees can follow a gig policy and hold two jobs. Having said that, the tech giant said it is not seeing gig policy as moonlighting.
Infosys reportedly sent an email to the employees on the gig policy and said that the employees can take up a second job by following a few guidelines. The employees should take prior permission from the manager and HRs on taking the second job. Besides this, the employees should make sure that they don't work for the opponents of Infosys.
What Infosys is believed to have said can be seen as a big development in the IT sector. This will help the employees sharpen their skills by doing multiple jobs and the employers can also cut short the money they pay to the freelancers.
As Infosys took a major step in this regard, a few other tech giants are also expected to join and allow the employees to do another job in their free time. Whatever might be the name the employers are using, if they are allowed it will help the IT sector at large.
Despite Infosys taking a big step, there are a few issues that need to be addressed in the gig policy. Most of the time, the managers and HRs won’t allow the employees to work for other companies. If this can be addressed and looked into it would be a good sign for the industry.
