Congress Candidates List Out, No Seat For Ponnala

The Much awaited Congress list of candidates is finally out. The list is a bagful of surprises. As many as 32 ticket aspirants, who contested last time, have been denied tickets. Also, two prominent leaders have been asked to contest from constituencies other than their home constituencies. More importantly, it has announced candidates in seats that the alliance partners have been demanding. This might set off furious debate within the alliance partners.
Caste wise, there are 39 SC, STC, BC and Minority candidates, 22 Reddys, 3 Velamas and one Brahmin. Among the BCs, there are five Munnuru Kapus, four Gouds, one each from Padmasali and Yadava. Of the total candidates, there are 1- women. Interestingly, several new entrants into the party, called Paratroopers by detractors, too found their way in the list. Quite surprisingly, former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Marri Sasidhar Reddy and PJR's son Vishnu Vardhan Reddy did not find place in the list. New entrant Konda Surekha was hoever given ticket. Only one student leader from OU was given ticket. Medipalli Satyam of the OU has been given ticket. He will contest from Choppadandi. Women leaders G Sujata, A Lalitha, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, DK Aruna, Padmavathi, Konda Surekha and Sitakka have been given ticket.
Interestingly, four former MPs - Ponnam Prabhakar, Sarvey Satyanarayana, Balaram Naik and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy have been given seats. three families - that of Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy, Mallu Ravi - have been given two seats each. Several seats demanded by the alliance partners have also seen candidates being announced.
