Charminar will be destroyed: Deputy CM

Telangana Deputy CM Mahmood Ali made headlines with his objectionable remark on the historical monument 'Charminar' located in Hyderabad.
While defending Telangana Government's decision to shift the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad to a new location, Mahmood Ali said even Charminar will be destroyed if it gets dilapidated. "If Charminar turns weak, may be in 200 or 50 years, it will be destroyed too. Else, it could fall at any time and claim many lives," he told.
Mahmood Ali claimed the new Osmania General Hospital will be built as a 10 to 15-storey hospital and it could serve 10 times more number of patients. As his remark kicked up a controversy, He explained he was speaking in a general sense and promised to work towards strengthening Charminar which is Hyderabadi's identity.
Charminar is being built in the 16th Century. It's a major landmark and tourist attraction in the pearl city.
