Telangana Leader wants ex CM's name for Kurnool District!
By: Tupaki Desk | 28 Jan 2022 10:26 AM GMTThe Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took the big step in adding extra districts in the state. The opposition parties are objecting to the decision by placing their reservations. The ruling party is also giving a strong counter to the opposition party leaders.
While the war of words between the ruling and opposition parties is going on, a fresh demand was placed before the Andhra Pradesh government by a veteran leader from the neighboring state. The demand is that a district should be named after a former Chief Minister.
Former Rajya Sabha member and All India Congress Committee(AICC) Secretary for Telangana state V. Hanumantha Rao had reacted to the new district's row and suggested that the Kurnool district should be named after former Chief Minister Damodaram Sanjivayya, media reports said.
V.Hanumatha Rao said that, during his stint as the Chief Minister of the combined Andhra Pradesh, Damodaram Sanjivayya had done an impeccable job as the CM and as he hails from Kurnool district, it will be appropriate to name the district after him.
While talking about his demand, VH expressed his shock over the Andhra Pradesh government forgetting about Damodaram Sanjivayya. I wonder why Chief Minister Jagan did not have a thought on this. It is nothing but disrespect towards the great leader, he said.
The veteran Congress leader also urged the leaders from the Kurnool region to see that the district is named after the Chief Minister and appealed to the leaders to put pressure on the government in this regard.
The politics in Andhra Pradesh are revolving around the district's row. Naming Vijayawada after NTR did not sit well with the Kapu leaders. The Kapu leaders are demanding that Vijayawada should be named after Vangaeveeti Mohana Ranga, who sacrificed his life fighting for the people of Vijayawada.
On the other hand, Nandamuri Balakrishna demanded the government to make Hindupur the headquarters of Satya Sai district as it has better facilities and resources compared to other constituencies under the newly made district. The Hindupur Telugu Desam Party(TDP) MLA placed the demand in a video message.
