By: Tupaki Desk | 15 Oct 2020 10:00 AM GMTA 14-year-old girl from Frisco, Texas has won a national award for her work on finding a potential cure for novel coronavirus
Telugu girl Anika Chebrolu, a student at Independence High School, recently won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge and $25,000.
"This molecule, which I developed, retains a specific protein on the SARS Covid-2 virus," Anika said of her discovery.
She explained that by capturing this protein it would disable the virus protein function, which she started with a database of 682 million compounds. She was in middle school when she took part in the competition a few months ago. She first decided to design her project on swine flu and then work on Covid.
Anika said she had chosen to research the coronavirus as millions of people around the world have been infected with the virus. She also said she would choose her career as a medical researcher after completing her schooling.
