Temple city made a district, gets Anna Garu's Name!
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 Jan 2022 1:04 PM GMTFor easy governance, the Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had added extra districts to the existing ones. With the new development, Andhra Pradesh now has as many as 26 districts. The districts were made on the grounds of the Parliamentary constituencies.
Not just increasing the districts, CM Jagan also kept his promise of naming the district after Legendary Telugu actor and former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao. The temple city Vijayawada was made a district and was named after the veteran actor. The Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency was made the district and the headquarters will be Vijayawada.
While campaigning for the 2019 General elections, YCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised that the Krishna district would be named after NTR, as a bid to honour the legendary leader who fought for the self-respect of the Telugu community.
Though the promise was fulfilled. The entire Krishna district was not named after NTR. Given the vast area of the district, the Krishna district was made with Machilipatnam as the district headquarters. Machilipatnam is the Parliament constituency.
It is not just the case of the Krishna district. Other Parliamentary constituencies with vast areas were made into two districts. Araku parliamentary constituency is the example for this which was made into two districts namely Manyam district and Alluri Seetharama Raju district.
