Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) which is often regarded as the think tank latest report has created a widespread sensation as it stated that for the financial year 2018-19, various parties across the nation have collected Rs 11,234 crore as a donation from unknown sources.



The ADR said that it mostly focused on the details submitted by the seven National parties to the Election Commission of India and made this analysis.



The seven parties stated by the ADR are as follows- BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Nationalist Congress Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Communist Party of India (CPI).



The funds which were taken from unknown sources refer to the funds declared in the Income Tax returns without naming the source for donations below Rs 20,000.



The Centre BJP tops the list by taking Rs 1,612.04 crore as income from unknown sources which marks 64% of the total funds. This is around 1.5 times the funds of the other five national parties derived from unknown sources which are around Rs 900.94 crore

The century-odd-year-old Congress party declared that it has received Rs 728.88 crore as funds from unknown sources which holds 29 percent of the total income of the national parties collected from various unknown sources, the ADR maintained.

"Between FY 2004-05 and 2018-19, the national parties have collected Rs 11,234.12 crore from unknown sources," the ADR added.

While the BSP declared that the party did not receive any sort of funds in the form of voluntary contributions either above or below Rs 20,000 by the sale of coupons/electoral bonds or unknown sources of income.

"Combined income of Congress and NCP from the sale of coupons between FY 2004-05 and 2018-19 stands at Rs 3,902.63 crore," ADR added.
