The Only Voter Dies
Bharat Das Darshan Das has passed away after prolonged illness. But, who is Bharat Das Darshan Das, one would definitely ask. In a land of 130 billion people, what is so special about him that his death finds a special mention?

Darshan Das is one man, for whom the election commission sends six employees so that he can cast his vote. He is the only voter in his booth. If he votes, it is 100 per cent vote. If he doesn't, the polling is zero per cent. Darshan Das, who is the priest of the Banagangeshwar temple in Gujarat's Gir forest, is the only voter in his booth. For him, the election commission has been setting up a booth for over 20 years. Darshad Das passed away on Saturday in a hospital in Rajkot. He was suffering from kidney related problems.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Darshan Das in one of his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcasts and his polling booth in Banej under Una assembly constituency has become world famous because it has just one voter. With Darshan Das's death, unless a new pujari is appointed, the booth will not be set up in the next election.
