The Union Cabinet Clears the Citizenship Amendment Bill

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave a green signal to the Citizenship Amendment Bill which will be put forward in the Parliament next week. This will give a boost to the NDA's decision to legitimizing the refugees of hand-picked nationalities and religions who are residing in India.
The Cabinet's clearance is vital as the Bill will now be presented in the Parliament as the Bharatiya Janata Party has plans to conduct a countrywide National Register of Citizens(NRC) exercise before the next Lok Sabha Polls in 2024.
Interestingly, the opposition has strongly opposed the Citizenship bill. The passage of the bill in both the houses of the Parliament will be very crucial for the saffron party.
The clearance of the Bill in the Union Cabinet came a day later Amit Shah conducted the final talks with various associates in the north-eastern states. It has been reported that student associations, civil body groups, All Assam Students Union, have shown their concerns on the impact of the Bill on the north-eastern people.
