MU, The Variant Of Interest Spreads To 40 Countries!

The fight to tackle the deadly Coronavirus is getting tougher with each day passing as the new variants of the Covid are being detected by the World Health Organization(WHO) at regular intervals. The Alpha variant, Delta, and Delta plus variants were detected by the WHO earlier.

As a new threat to the world from the dreaded Covid. The WHO had classified the Mu variant as the variant of interest (VOI). The new variant was detected in Colombia earlier in January this year. The variant is on a spree of extending its footprint in other countries. So far, the variant was found in 40 countries.

The researchers have raised doubt of possible changes in the genetics of the Mu variant that makes it even more dangerous than the other variants. The peculiar character of the variant enables it to beat the immune system of the Coronavirus vaccines, they said.

According to the observations of the WHO, the Mu variant had spread to around 40 countries including Europe, America, Britain, and others. The variant is said to be the driving force of the Covid spread in these countries. A lot of countries are facing the wrath of the spike in new infections and hospitalizations. Despite being the superpower nation, America is constantly seeing the rise in average hospitalizations every week.

Earlier, the World Health Organization(WHO) had expressed its concerns over the possible escape of the variants from the immune system offered by the Covid vaccines. As more variants are likely to be detected in the future, there is a fear in the mind of the researchers that the new variants might come with an escape from the immune system.

In the light of the fears on the variants beating the vaccine immune system, the vaccine manufactures are carrying out their studies and trials to see that the vaccines will beat the existing Covid variants as well as the possible new variants. The manufacturers of a few vaccines are confident that the vaccines can fight the Covid causing SARS-CoV-2, besides the variants like Delta.

On the flip side, researchers and experts are battling for the increase in vaccine numbers. They believe that vaccinating the people will bring down the chances of the new variants emerging.
