Adding strength to the debate that the third wave of Coronavirus will hit India soon, the Covid infections are increasing at a rapid pace. On top of this, Omicron infections are also increasing right under our noses. In no time, the infections are nearing the 2k mark.

Days after the new year celebrations, India recorded the highest number of single-day cases in recent times. The official data says, not less than 37,379 fresh Coronavirus infections were reported in the past 24 hours, while 124 people have lost their lives in the same time frame.

As the rise in Covid infections and Omicron infections is not enough, India's Covid Task Force Chief Dr. NK Arora issued a warning that this is the signal that the third wave is round the corner. The Omicron infections are increasing and three states account for the highest share of cases.

Expressing his concerns that the steady rise in infections should be considered as the danger signal, the NTAGI Chairman Dr. Arora said that the way the Omicron-triggered infections are going is alarming and this can’t be taken for granted.

The ex[ert also voiced his opinion on the booster dose to take on the new variant. Acknowledging the fact that the Omicron variant comes with vaccine escapability, Dr. Arora said the opinion on going for the booster dose is under evaluation stage as more data and study is required to take a final call on this.

He once again urged the beneficiaries to take the two doses of vaccine as it brings down the percentage of hospitalisations and deaths caused by the virus. We are currently focused on the task that each and every person in the country takes the vaccine jabs, he said.

The Omicron was detached first in December first week. Last week,12 percent of the infections were detected across the country. Now 28 percent of infections were reported, he said.

The more important thing is that the Omicron infections reached the metro cities as well. Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, hold the highest number of infections. Maharashtra tops the states that have the Omicron infections, he added.
